Preventative Dentistry

The best, and most effective, way to avoid serious dental problems is a combination of two things: preventive home care (regular brushing & flossing) combined with semi-annual visits to your dentist for preventive cleanings and exams. Most serious problems (barring broken teeth or trauma) can be headed off early, or at least diagnosed and treated before the damage is severe or you start to feel significant pain. Platinum Family Dental takes a proactive approach to gum and tooth health by providing the following services:

• Preventive Dental Cleanings: Patients with healthy teeth and gums should be seen twice a year for dental cleaning appointments. These visits help remove bacteria and plaque from your teeth and let us check for any issues that may be arising. Making and keeping these appointments is a huge part of preventive dental care, right up there with your own routine of brushing AND flossing.
• Dental Sealants: By applying dental sealant to the chewing surfaces of your teeth, the little crevices and creases are protected against the encroachment of bacteria. Sealants are not a substitute for an at-home oral hygiene regimen, but can assist in lowering the risk of cavities.

Periodontal Therapy: If your gums are sore after brushing, bleed easily, and seem to be receding from your teeth, ask about periodontal treatment. We can remove plaque and bacteria from below the gum-line and provide long lasting treatment to protect against infection. Periodontal therapy is usually provided 3-4 times per year for patients with periodontal disease.
