Full Mouth Restoration

Full Mouth Restorations

Full mouth restoration is a rehabilitative procedure with multiple steps. We will work in tandem with any other necessary specialists (such as an oral surgeon, orthodontist, or prosthodontist) to create a treatment plan and decide on the steps to be taken to restore your smile. Some trips to other dental offices may be required if a specialist is required for one or more steps of the process.

What is involved in Full Mouth Restorations?

Cosmetic dental reconstruction can involve any or all of the following:

  • Periodontal treatment such as gum therapies
  • Endodontic treatment such as root canals
  • General dental treatment such as restorations
  • Cosmetic procedures such as whitening or straightening
  • Dental implants to support restorations
  • Bone grafting for extreme cases where more support is needed in the jaw
  • Orthodontic or prosthodontic care such as appliances

Our Doctors will explain your course of treatment fully to you before it starts, and give you estimates on number of visits, skills of specialists involved, and total time needed for all procedures and recovery.

AFTER YOUR FULL MOUTH RESTORATION

It can take time to get used to the feel of a new bite. Whenever your bite is altered or the position of the teeth is changed, it takes several days for the brain to recognize the new position of your teeth or to accept their thickness as normal.

It is normal to experience some hot and cold sensitivity. The teeth require some time to heal after removal of tooth structure, and will be sensitive in the interim. Your gums may also be sore for a few days. Don't be concerned if your speech is affected for a few days — you will adapt quickly and be back to normal in about a week.

You can use simple, effective measures to minimize discomfort after procedures. Warm salt water rinses (a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) three times a day will reduce pain and swelling. A mild pain medication (one tablet of Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin) every 3-4 hours) should ease any residual discomfort. If extensive oral surgery is completed, your dentist will prescribe any additional required pain medication.
